P-200 that pingsin response to alfie: : : I have a 1979 P-200E completely stock that runs just fine but after it has been running for about a half hour begins to ping going up any kind of a grade. This doesn't affect it's performance at all but the noise is unnurving. I use ninety four octane gas in this scooter if that helps. Also the scooter is completely stock and has never been rebuilt. It has four thousand miles on it. I have removed the head over the winter and there is no build up of carbon? Any help would be appreciated. : Check your timing.. 94 oct is way overkill for a stock (right) scooter. I would go down to 86 octane and see if I could get it to run ok with that. My bike runs >10:1 and I use the lowest octane I can get. This octane issue has been addressed a few times before on the BBS. If your engine knocks with 94 octane, using 86 octane will not help at all. Higher octane gas prevents pinging and not the reverse. It is a well documented fact. I can't help to resolve your pinging, but it has nothing to do with the 94 octane you are using. francois
