"what next?"
| |
so my bike wasn't idling well, it would vary from between 18 and 12 would often die at stop lights. so i pulled the carbs and cleaned them (thanks xander450!) although really they weren't dirty at all. so now after adjusting the idle and air mixture screw it remains pretty consistant at 13. except when it just suddenly dies. so what should i check next? if it were the timing it would run crappy wouldn't it? as long as the bikes moving it's got no troubles, it's those damn stop lights that kill me. anyway just to be vain here's a pic of my bike:

Wow, you know, the 360 experience I have is from working on that bike EXACTLY - same year, same color scheme... it's a great looking machine. So yep, timing's the next thing I would check. Borrow a timing light and run the test. You can do it statically without a timing light, however you won't be able to check your advance. To do it statically, remove your plugs from the engine, then stick them back on the ends of the plug wires. With the ignition on (and the bike not running), ground the ends of the plugs against the engine somewhere and slowly turn the engine over with a wrench at the end of the crank (below the stator cover). when the left side fires, make sure that the LF mark is lined up EXACTLY with the timing mark. Same for right side and F mark. Retarded timing (which is probably what you have - that's the direction it settles from spring tension) resembles rich jetting in terms of running operation and appearance of plugs, i.e. bike runs like shit and plugs foul. rich jetting means black black plugs? cuz that's what i got. a while ago i looked outside the window at work and saw a guy sitting on my bike, i went out there ready to yell and it turns out he's got a 1974 cb360, exact same color, w/ drag bars, looks almost exactly like mine. hard to believe they made that orange color more than one year. |

Ya man, nine out of ten times that's what it means. The other possibility is oil fouling. Easy to tell the difference - rich mixture gets you black, dry, powdery plugs. Oil fouling gets you black, wet, oily plugs. Alex |

I'd also clean and/or change the air filter if you are running rich. Make sure it is installed correctly too. check your pipes for dry black soot, another indication you are running rich. |

so i noticed yesterday that if i lean my bike to the left it idles pretty well, if i lean it to the right it idles much worse and will usually die. so i guess i'll check the tubes between the tank and the carbs... what else could this mean? |
