The Furnace is a Tank... not sure who's selling it & what an "existing" warranty means. There are lots of these being offered right now. It's my understanding that EPA/DOT okay but not sure about CARB. Anbody else? Best; Cleat |

I was wondering this myself, what gets approved the brand or the engine? For example I purchased a Strada scooter and although I know Strada's are approved I didn't find them on the lists. When I did my thing at DMV they looked it up by Qianjiang, they had to call the central DMV at the capitol to approve the scooter. So what exactly are they checking against and can it be approved from the factory and leave the individual dealers free from having to independtly certify their product? |

So, what did he say it was? It sure looks like a Tank model Furnace. What is the claim for its manufacturer? Did he give any other information? |

He didn't say. I got a response from Jason Ingwaldson @ jdiservice@cox.net. All he said was "No it is not." After he said it was not a Tank - I didn't inquiry any further. I didn't think it was a Tank because there were no Tank markings other than Furnace on the side. The model number appears to be LB150T-2. |

One way to help figure out the manufacturer is to ask for or look for the first 3 digits of the VIN number. That is the WMI number. Then go to this site and enter those 3 numbers/letters in the WMI field and click search. http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/manufacture/

Furnace is not Tank and DMV has nothing to do with EPA. EPA doesn't even know what WMI is. Certificate must be issued in the name of the importer and the name of the manufacturer on the EPA tag on the bike. Certification goes for specific models of bikes that the importer and the manufacturer agree to produce/import. This is why there can be several different importers for one manufacturer, but they import different models... even though these models will be identical to each other. Many potential importers are contacted by Chinese factories who say they have EPA certified scooters. This is simply not true and illegal. The only importers who can import bikes from China are ones that have their names on the certificate. They can then sell the bikes to distributors, but distributors can't change model names. |

At this time, EPA and DOT rules are so confusing that state governments have no way of deciphering what they can and can not do. In addition to this, the rules change all the time. To most state DMVs, if the bike is listed on NHTSA website, it's all the proof they need. Most don't check anything that has to do with EPA. Many California DMVs don't even check for CARB certificates. NHTSA and EPA are trying to correct this, but with very low resources, they simply can't. They leave it up to individual states to make their own policies. This post is in no way intended to discredit PSF. I have not done my research on them and they may very well be fully compliant. The post is simply intended to explain how many illegal bikes end up being registered and pass inspections. |

>Furnace is not Tank and DMV has nothing to do with EPA. I really did not intend to say that the WMI number had anything to do with EPA. But if there is a question as to manufacturers etc. punch in the 3 digit WMI number as a start and go from there. |
