"Upstate SC beware"

Hotshot Cycles in Anderson, SC has a long standing reputation as being dishonest in their dealings. I was warned by quite a few people when I first mentioned the store, not to deal with them. I then had a friend buy a Panda scooter from them, and he has had nothing but trouble with it since day one. The engine has been replaced 3 times, but each time they change it for him, they never show him the old one. They always say they got rid of it already. I have another friend who got his tires changed there, and they took forever to figure out how to do that. Then they had reassembled his bike incorrectly, and his brakes didn't work. They sell nothing but the chinese scooters and those mini-harleys. The owner is an older biker-type, who doesn't seem too eager to help satisfy a customer. They charge inflated prices for their junk parts. I was quoted once at $70. for a monoshock that I would have to pull myself from a junk bike in their yard. I have heard a story that I have yet to verify, that the owner has the shop in the name of his dead mother so that there is nobody to sue when someone tries to sue the business for bad practice. I have also heard mumblings about them selling the occasional stolen cycle.

I wish I had read this message about 2 months ago. You described Hotshot Cycles to a tee. I took my 1997 Kawasaki Ninja ZX7R to let him put chrome wheels on it. He told me that I would be back on the road in two to three weeks. I should have been wary of the place from the get go because everyone there is very unprofessional. They smoke cigarettes in the showroom and when I did finally get my bike back two days ago they were drinking beer. Anyway as I was saying, about 3 weeks after I had left my bike there, I start to get a little impatient. So I go to the shop to ask him how much longer it would take. He says about two more days and he shows me my rims, already chromed. I feel a little better about the situation until he calls me two days later. He says that the people who chromed the wheels sent the wrong rims back. But I am 99% sure that the wheels that I saw that day were mine. Anyways time goes by and he keeps giving me the runaround. When I call him, he would either put me on hold or hang up the phone and act like the call got disconnected. Well finally about a week ago, he tells me that the wheels, have finally come in. Keep in mind that my bike has been in his shop about 7 weeks now. He says that he will definitely have my bike ready by Saturday. I wait to Friday to call him to ask if my bike will be ready that next day. He says that he will do his best but he can't make any promises, and to call him by 10:00 Saturday. Well by then I'm fed up with the whole situation so I tow my trailer to his shop that next morning. I arrive at about 9:30. The owner is not in, so I ask to see my bike. They hadn't even started on it. One of the workers says that Paul(the owner) told him to work on the bike that day. I end up trying to help the guy put the wheels on myself. He didn't know anymore about putting the wheels on than I did. Anyways, to make a long story short I took my bike home that day without the bike being fully completed. So, I would just like to warn anyone who is thinking of doing any business with Hotshot Cycles to think twice about it. These people are not professionals. I think the owner(Paul) does drugs because he always has this funny look and loves to put on dark shades. He is a crook who will try to fast talk you but the truth is he doesn't know much about motorcycles at all. Dealing with Hotshot Cycles has made these last two months very stressful for me. I just hope that someone thinking of dealing with Hotshot Cycles reads this and changes their mind. It will save them a lot of time, trouble, and money.
