"Hey Mac kids..."

Can anyone recommend a good, not-too-techie book for new Mac users? My new job is in a Mac environment. I got a MACs for Dummies book but it's the wrong version. (They're on version 9.2). I just need the basics, and something that appreciates the fact that I'm a PC girl living in a PC world.

Just keep in mind that a Mac is intuitive to use, then a PC.

Bring Sophie over on Sunday and I'll give you a tutorial.

BTW There are two copies of MacOS 9 for Dummies in the Arlington Central Library (or at least there were on Monday night).

Enjoy,

Sophia Maria just had surgery yesterday:(. I doubt she wants other dogs to see her with that big ugly cone on her head- let alone a Great dane. Thanks for the advice, I'll check out the "For Dummies" book on OS 9.

Maybe we should just change her name to Prymatt.

Enjoy,

I don't know any particular books but if you click on Help from the menu bar, it will give you all the answers and guide you thru every problem you may encounter step by step. It's more 'hands on' then a book I just don't know if you'll have time to do that at work....In any case it wont take you long, once you get into the Mac groove it will all come to you. Sorry that I'm of no help at all...

If you get stuck don't hesitate to post here or e-mail me at chlorinefilms@earthlink.net

EDIT: Hey look at that. I've posted this the same minute Stafford posted his tutorial offer.......

first off welcome to the creative, logical and user friendly side of the computer world.
take staphy up on his offer, just poke around on OS X of an hour or so, it's really easy to use and if you need more check out "Quick Start's user guide to OS X"
shoot me an email if you have any questions,

Read Sarah's post again, she'll be joining the classic, antiquated, and crash-happy side of the Mac world, and will not be enjoying the benefits of X.

Enjoy,

Haha! You're hooked on the StabbithaBiddles now too!

So far everything's going well (except that I spent about 5 minutes on my first day trying to find the "Shut Down" command- why put it under"special"...there's nothing special about shutting down a computer). I also put on the balloons, so everything my mouse touches I get a pop-up bubble telling me what it is and what it does. If only my job were going as well as my Mac learning curve ...feels like the first day of High School.

Thanks for all the offers for help guys. Your inboxes just may be barraged soon.

<<(except that I spent about 5 minutes on my first day trying to find the "Shut Down" command- why put it under"special"...there's nothing special about shutting down a computer)>>

One thing you are going to learn to love about Macs are the keyboard shortcuts. Like playing a piano after a while.....

To shut down/sleep/restart you can use the power button on your keyboard (if you are using older Mac) or you can press control+eject in OSX to bring the same window up.

I used to really hate having to re-learn, when I first switched from Windows. I remember being pissed off because I couldn't find out how to eject the floppy disc (no buttons on casing like on PCs). I never thought of dragging the floppy icon to the trash.....
