Good news in the long run. Pray for all the troops for the initial shitstorm they're going to endure from Saddam loyalists. http://msnbc.msn.com/id/3708151/ scott

>Good news in the long run. Pray for all the troops for the >initial shitstorm they're going to endure from Saddam >loyalists. >http://msnbc.msn.com/id/3708151/ What have the loyalists got to fight for? It would be stupid for them to keep fighting, but they probably will. Good thing is that the folks who were on the fence or were afraid he might come back into power now can help and aid the coalition without fear of reprisals, however paranoid they might have been... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"What have the loyalists got to fight for?" beats me. then again, the guy was caught in a rat-infested cellar, doesn't sound like he was really running much of a show. i don't think they're going to just stop now that Hussein is in the brig.

I just finished watching the live coverage of the news conference. The Iraqi journalists seemed very happy. So now what? The head of the Iraqi ruling council said they were going to try him for war crimes. An Iraqi journalist asked if he would be put to death. If they decide to execute him, will he become a martyr? If they imprison him for life, will that fuel any remaining loyalists to continue to fight and attempt to free him? What ya think?? ~Scott ~Scott ------------------------- It's all fun and games until someone farts in your helmet |

while i'm glad that he's been captured, i'm just wondering how this will play out, hence the trial stuff. " I was just wondering who was going to be the first to resort back to the US in a negative way from the good news of Saddam being caught." ..and i was waiting for the pro-war-thought-police-enforcers to show up. nice to see we're both mollified. |

Maybe they'll have the trial on an aircraft carrier in San Diego )It will be interesting to see what the Pentagon does. If they keep him totally under U.S. control, then the Iraqis will complain that justice is not being served. If they give him to the Iraqis, they lose control and the dirty laundry comes out. The Pentagon doesn't want to give up control of Saddam. This admin has shown no sign of allowing any sort of sharing of authority with the international community. Now they are going to feel some pressure from Iraq to do something that goes against their philosophy. They could just stall on the trial and hang on to him until the election is over next fall. Ah, what the hell. Let's just have a reunion party with Rummy and Saddam. It will be like the good old days.

I have serious doubts that the US will allow Iraq to conduct the trial. "we won't let you have a say in the formation of your own government, but hey, what the heck, here's the guy we just spent $200 billion hunting down." It'd be nice, but I think a bit of a long shot.

This "dirty laundry" has been out for some time now, even before Bush took office. Why do you think this is new? And why we are at it, why not bring the other countries into it as well. Hell, they did some "dirty" laundry like deals as well.As far as sharing. Hate to tell you this, but the US just got Saddam over the weekend. Nothing has even settled in yet and you are saying "the pentagon does'nt want to give up control". Give it some time. SCOTT |

The dirty laundry isn't new and not unique to the U.S. Nonetheless, it is something that the U.S. and other countries want to avoid. I still think this is the reason why the Bush admin never made the atrocities a main selling point for the invasion of Iraq. Instead, they chose the Pentagon angle of nuclear weapons he didn't have. The pentagon doesn't want to give up control. They will likely have a trial somewhere in or near the Mideast, like Qatar, where the U.S. maintains complete control but allows the Iraqis some input. I would be surprised if anything other than this happened within a year. There isn't even any govt in Iraq to maintain security and hold a trial, and there's not likely to be a stable one before next fall.

For that matter, it wouldn't be bad idea to put people like Rumsfeld on trial and others in France, Germany, Russia, who were involved in arming him. They are just as guilty for giving him the means to commit the atrocities. BTW, check out the U.N. resolutions on the web. You will find that the U.S. was the only country to veto the U.N. resolution in 1988 that condemned Saddam for his use of chemical weapons. |

Those military leaders in the Taliban said the same thing. Fight to the death. In the end, Mullah Omar, leader of the Taliban, got on a motorcycle and did the book. |

Well done. He didn't look like he was controling anything from his cellar though. He looked more like a homeless man. Two car bombs already since then, we'll see....it may be too early to celebrate. Now, why did US attack Iraq again?

Good news, indeed! Now that Saddam's caught, we should bring the soldiers back home very soon. I hope that they're sure that they caught the right Saddam instead of one of his many clones... - Mike

We were quit victorious in the first stage of the war. And maybe it was set up by Saddam to work that way. But regardless, the violence will not stop all together. And we cant leave just because we got Saddam, that would be fatal to Iraq. We have to stay there until the nation is back on it's feet and has some sort of structured(?) government. Getting Saddam was nothing but a good thing though, both for the US and especially for the Iraqi people! SCOTT
