"Jump on the Saddam bandwagon!"

World leaders hail capture of Saddam
France, Germany among first to hail ex-leader's arrest

Kinda like that crazy uncle every has, who all of a sudden became a Marlins fan after the World Series.

Well at least they had guts to do so. What other options are there? To disapprove of the capture? Nobody denied that Saddam was a bad guy.

? So because they were opposed to the US for ignoring international conventions and denying any form of diplomacy, you somehow got to think France, Germany or any other state was FOR Saddam?

Well, France & Russia were advising Saddam before the war to stand and fight. So, yeah, I think France was pro-Saddam. http://www.guardian.co.uk/Iraq/Story/0,2763,1077283,00.html
They seemed to welcome Hitler with out a fight.

The Guardian, isn't that a commie newspaper?

"They seemed to welcome Hitler with out a fight."

So did my ancesters.
But i think in the war against the French they fought back, and even before that against the Austrians and the Dutch. I have a family tree up till 1100. Very interesting to see how every individual generation made a choice based upon the circumstances.

Oh well, you guys still have that lunatick on an island filled with nukes... what's up with that?

I used the Guradian because that seems to be the news source of choice for the Pro-Saddam, Anti-Bush, Anti-US types here.

Not sure of your ancestry, so I can't answer.

Lunatic on an Island? Are you referring to Korea? Better brush up on your geography.

I'm anti-saddam, anti-commies, anti-turk in the kurdish and cypriot conflict, anti iraqi in the iraqi-kurdish conflict, anti-uk in the irish-nothern-ireland conflict, anti-separatist in the belgian conflict but also anti-monarchist, but i'm pro jokes about the french.

As long as Bush's politics don't interfere with european politics i couldn't care any less who he is.

And don't give me that hippie 'gee dave you should learn to be more pro stuff and less anti' crap

http://www.euronews.net is a nice news source...

the ancesters: Belgae
the island: Cuba in case you wondered

Puhlease, you think these countries were fond of the guy? Everyone (including all the anti war folks on this board) acknowledged that Saddam was a right bastard, genocidal maniac. They just didn't see that alone as enough reason to invade a sovereign country.

Then why did France & Russia advise him to stand & fight against the US? Because they hated him?

the same reason the US helped him out against Iran. politics.

just because the US helped him against Iran doesn't mean we loved the guy. we knew from the beginning he was a douchebag. we just looked past that for our own interests.

in hindsight, it was a bad idea, and France and Germany are probably feeling the same way with the reconstruction deals and all. feh.

Probably because they had a lot to hide that would become exposed if the US were to have found what we set out to find.
